I'm towing my 5th wheel~camper (~15k) and over the past two hours or so, I've experienced a noise that sounds like an electric motor turning on and running under the dash for a few minutes and then fades away. Also, it changes pitch with speed.

Has anyone else experienced this or can you guys tell me what I need to look at?

Thanks in advance
Corey

No, it's not as loud as the fan. It sounds like its under the dash but it could've been under the hood

How loud is it? Very faint? Do u have a factory 6 disc cd player? Or any cd player could i suppose. Anyway i have heard my 6disc cd player running cycles even tho is not on. I believe its the fan on the unit coolin it down your sound could be very different tho but i have heard mine on longer trips. But its very hard to hear.

It is not really loud, I can hear it ovet the ac. It's a pioneer head unit, it could be the cooling fan on the head unit bit the sound changed pitch with throttle position and vehicle speed

I did some snooping under the dash and found the brake actuator assembly looks like it is leaking. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345854851.791913.jpg
Should that be damp/covered in oil and dirt or is that normal?

No, it's not supposed to be oily. It's a sure sign that you're going to be needing a new hydroboost in the near future. I just replaced it on my 03. The 06 should be similarly easy, about an hour to an hour and a half.

I did the labor myself, so it was just the cost of parts.

It looks like you can get a used one from a junkyard for $100-$150, a reman AC Delco hydroboost from rockauto.com for $150-ish, and a new one for $283. If you do replace the booster yourself, I recommend leaving the brake lines attached to the master cylinder so you don't have to bleed the brakes when you're done.

If you do it yourself, it is just the 4 nuts on the back of the firewall and two that hold on the master cylinder. A universal joint makes the nuts on the firewall easier to get to with a socket.

That's not bad as I thought it was going to be, i was worried i would have to bleed the brakes. Thanks for the info and advice, I'll have to get one and get it installed here soon. Do you know what the warranty is on the reman and new booster?

Not sure on the warranty. That's something to ask whoever you're buying it from. I think AC Delco offers a 12 month/12k mile warranty and A1 Cardone usually has a limited lifetime warranty on most their products, but like I said - check before you buy.

Will do, thanks. Will I need any special tools to take the old one off and put the new one on?
