Need some help guys, have a 2005 gmc 4x4 auto, lly 150k threw a code a couple weeks back po0046 turbo vane position sensor i believe it was. havnt noticed any significant loss of power or noise issues. hooked up mechanics software and when demanding turbo vane position sensor it would only go from 0-85%. pulled the sensor on top of turbo hooked scan back up and was able to Manuely push the plunger from 0- 100%. so figured it was a problem with the vane position (soliniod) left side of turbo. replaced that today with a new garret part and after 4-5 start ups cel came on again po0046???? thing is giving me a headache and running out of money fast . what do you guys think? is it something as simple as the new sensor needs to be re learned? im not a mechanic and i hate electronics above all lol so any help is greatly appreciated? thanks in advance kyle.

If the sensor is reading correctly, and the position controller is good, then the vanes are probably sticking.

Since the vane position sensor seems to read accurately when manually pushing it is would say it's good.

And since you changed the controller it's highly unlikely that it's bad.

So I would do a vane position relearn just to rule that out as a possibility.

But it's more then like likey a mechanical issue in the vanes, or the ring that controls them. Usually carbon buildup and corrosion cause them stick and hang up.

So after installing new vane position solenoid it needs to be relearned? I can bring it to a buddy's shop and have him do that

Yes it should be.

Once it's warmed up it will do a relearn automatically. Needs to be in park, ac off, and at a steady warm idle for a minute or 2.

But to be safe have your buddy do it to be sure.
