I think I will be participating in a sled pull in a couple of weeks, and I was hoping some of you regular sled pullers could give me a little advice on what tires to use. I have a couple of options, and I'm not 100% sure which way to go. Option 1 is to use a set of 285/70-17 Firestone Destination M/Ts. Two of them are probably 50% tread, and the other two are probably 25%. Option 2 is to use a set of 305/50-20 Nitto NT420Ss. They are brand new with less than 5000 miles on them. Both tires are pretty close in size. The Firestone is a little bit taller, and the Nitto is a little bit wider. Here is a picture of both to show the tread pattern.

I can see them both now, I am no pullerbut the destination tires look more aggressive then the nitto's. I guess alot of it plays in track condition to

Can I choose neither? Probably a horse a piece. If it is a good sticky clay track it won't matter which ones you use they will hook if you weigh 8000lbs. If it is a sandy loose track neither will hook so it won't matter.

Go with the M/T's.

By that logic, I'll just stick with the Nittos. They're already on the truck, and since it doesn't sound like it matters, I'll just save myself the hassle.

Yes, that usually becomes the deciding factor, which is easier!!! I know how that goes. Good luck at the pull.:thumb: I think you will do fine.

Well, I have some info on the track and the sled. Here's what Gene posted on CompD:

Sled Is Bungarts Ex factor out of MO. TRack is plenty wet, but supports the sled, we'll dry it some in the moring then add water back in. Seems to be black gumbo with a smattering of red clay. Wayyyy better than Crandall or the old DHRA track in Baytown.
Fine Kubota tractors with the local dealershisps support.

Bungarts scraper has a water tank on it for maintence.

Now I'm really thinking I should run the Firestones. If that black dirt is even a little wet, it gets super slick. Does anyone know anything about the sled they brought in? New thoughts on tires?

Fierce Attitude M/T's get my vote! they are almost an exact copy of an MTZ but wayyy cheaper. I got a whole set of 305's mounted on 16's for $745 out the door.

I was really trying to decide between the two sets I have already, but thanks for the info. I'll keep them in mind next time I go tire shopping.

I may actually know someone who has some of those tires I could borrow. I'll have to talk to him tomorrow morning.
