My truck is almost done, and i am thinking about changing to 3.42 gears to give the tranny a bit more time to shift. who has all done this and what were your impressions? also will a locker in the back make much difference over the limited slip?

are you a 2wd or a 4wd?

being a 2wd i try to get the truck level. springs clamped, and about a 2k rpm launch with my m and h's. 60 foot times still suck, but i'll soon have a set of cal tracs which should help.

i am looking in to a new diff, but there isnt a whole lot for us to choose from. Eaton, ARB, and the stock Dodge AAM tru trac/trac rite(i forget what AAM calls theirs) is about all there is. it couldnt hurt to much to have both back tires spinning at the same time....

The reason to run 3.42's is if you are running out of RPM up top. Since most the real racing tires for these trucks are "short" (28"), the taller gears can give you more MPH.

Casper has been running 3.42's awhile and so far I like them. Wish we had them last ProStreet season.

Do you think there is any benefit for the tranny at all?

I would not go out of my way to switch to 3.42's.

The trans will actually get a little hotter with 3.42's much like running with tall tires.

The effect of 3.42's is just like 33" tires (305's) without the heavy tires to lug around.
