Gentlemen,

I am new to diesels, other than what I drove in the service. I have a chance to buy a 2001 Chevy 3500 dually diesel with 98k. Test drove it and was impressed by the power and ride. I have been in my 2000 Dodge 1500 with a 5.2 for ten years so it was a big jump in all areas.

I am taking it to a dealer for an inspection on Wed. Is there anything I need to look at specifically or be cautious of?

Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

The biggest things you'll want to look at is 1. have the injectors been replaced and 2. does the transfer case have the pump rump fix done to it.

I know there are others but these 2 are common, especially the injectors.

Tell them to check balance rates on injectors. If u have a chance to start it cold, before u do feel upper radiator hose to see if its hard. Then just the normal truck stuff. Make sure 4x4 engages and works. Check fluids ect. There are a few other threads with similar queations asked, if u use the search it will bring up some good info for u. Good luck. Sounds like a good truck with low miles.

Dido, try and start it up cold and make sure no unusual smoke is coming out of the tail pipe as well as noise from the motor it's self. I would also double check the oil and make sure it looks and smells good and normal! Besides that night and a day difference from your old Dodge! :thumb:
