Im pretty new here but I figured I would get better answers here rather than on DP. Any way I have a 05 CC LB with 33x12.5 AT's Big Dipper trans and Robs tuning, Air Dog and thats it. For a big truck it moves but just want to go a little faster. At the same time I dont want to have a bunch of problems down the road so reliability is pretty important. Im not looking for a race truck just a little more power. I want twins but I cant afford a kit so I would fab them myself but it seems like most of the DIy'ers have all sorts of kinks and issues that need to be worked out. What is a good reliable(and not to expensive) option for what I want that will still have my motor in one piece 100k from now.? sorry for the long post. thanks

Yea I was looking at the htt but its kinda expensive. I feel like I could build twins for that much. Can I get a good off the shelf Airwerks turbo that will do what i need. Those are under a $1k right?

I just bought a S475 with a t6 housing for 660 with tax no shipping cuz i bought it locally. The twins that im currently working on cost about 1450 or so with gauges and a gauge pod but thats without a downpipe so it might be a little more. Ive got about 18 hours in it so far and im just waiting for the paint to dry so i can put everything back in the truck. Im hoping I dont have too many issues. This thread has some good pics and info, http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21274. So does this one but its for an LB7, http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12043.

Damn thats right in my price range. I just feel like besides all the little problems that may/will arise running 50-70psi of boost is gonna take its toll in the long run. Does it make sense to run twins at around 45 psi or does a single make more sense. Im more concerned with long term reliablity than huge power numbers. MY last two trucks have had a ton of mods and something was always messing up.

Its only cheap if you have all the proper tools and the ability to fab everything up. I spent like 22 hours over two days building mine and I had 2 of my friends helping me a bit. If I wouldnt have had someone to help hold things and such it would have probably taken over 30 hours.

So far ive only hit 47psi and thats with all the fuel i can throw at it with just a lift pump without dropping rail pressure. It might make a little more with some tweaking to the tune and higher shift points but im not sure. Theres always going to be a risk of breaking something. I have a spare short block in my garage for just that reason.

Ive never driven or ridden in a duramax with a big single but ive driven a dodge with one and in my experience i prefer twins for street use. A big single can be fun but it can kinda suck to drive at times.

As for long term reliability your probably kinda screwed. It seems like when you push 500rwhp or more your on borrowed time and some people just have better luck than others. It seems like there are some things you can do or have products and services from certain people that have a good success rate to help with reliability but you still never know. And if you use the power on tap all the time something is gonna give.

Yea I know its a risk no matter what I do, its just my last two trucks have had a ton of mods and many inherited problems. The fab work is no problems its the time that I have problems with, i dont have much of it. I told george I was doing twins and thas what he setup my trans around so I guess I will just go that route but damn it I told myself I wouldnt get crazy with this truck. Im screwed either way. Seems like the s400's the most popular second turbo. Any wheel sizes to stay away from?

Ok I don't get it? You can't do twins for cheaper than a single.

Isnt the HTT like $2800 or am I way off? I was saying I could do a s400 as a single for a lot cheaper than the HTT. Or add it in a compound setup and still be under $2500 all said and done. Damn I should have never bought a diesel. Im just trying not to spend a shit ton of money. But if Im gonna spend over 2K on a turbo I think I could build twins for that much using a
s400. I just dont want the be fixing this and that for the next 3 years. So I dont really know what the hell I want to do.

Ok I think I figured it out. I will do a single now but one that I can twin later. I know the HTT is a good choice but what BW turbo will work as a single and also work well in a twin setup?
