I have an '06 LLY, and I just pulled a bad glow plug. The replacement from autozone looks like the LLY pictured below, the glow plug that came out of the truck looks like the LBZ pictured below.

Is it safe to put the new plug in? Does anyone know? the new plug is inserted about 3/4" futher into the head. I've googled and nothing concrete, one guy says they won't interchange, another says they did this to make it easier to swap when working around the steering linkage.

thanks.

The glow plug you got won't thread in. You see how the threads are almost a full inch further down the body of the LBZ glow plug? The tapered tip at the bottom of the body will bottom out before the threads engage, and if they did somehow, cylinder pressure from combustion would likely blow them out because of insufficient thread engagement.

You'll be better off if you tell parts stores you have an LBZ instead of an LLY or 8th VIN digit of D instead of 2, whichever they ask.

Thanks. It didn't look like it would clear, and I didn't want to install it due to the extra length so I put the old one back in. I will do what you suggested.
