so yesterday on the way home from work I was 5 miles from home my driveshaft let go so I pulled to the side of the road and limped it home in 4wd using the front tires well I got home and the slip yoke was still in the transfercase my boss had a spare drive shaft I tried installing it and its just a little to long it came out of the same year and configuration truck is there any reason it wouldn't fit I need this back on the road asap

It should fit from the same year and config. Is the slip yoke going in all the way? I'm guessing something is preventing the slip yoke from going in fully.

That, or you bent something and the rear axle and transfer case are now too close together. How'd you lose the driveshaft in the first place?

looks like the caps came out on the front u joint and fell out and it looks like its maybe 1/2 in to long now but the drive shafts I have the old one and the new one are exactly the same length it is puzzleing me

You probably have damaged splines in the transfer case from driving it home after it broke, shine a light in there and snap some pics and post em up I bet couple of the splines are chewed up not allowing the new shaft to fully engauge.
