So I have an 06 duramax and have this ticking sound that just keeps gettin worse. It gets faster when i get on the gas and its been tested for a bad injector and they couldnt find anything wrong.

It just got new glow plugs by the dealership and I was told that the hydrobooster and the power steering hose is leaking. When I showed them the ticking sound, they said it was a belt but Im pretty sure its not. Ive had different people look at it and they all say they gotta take it apart to find where its coming from.

Anyone have any idea of what it could be?!
I just got this truck, my dad had it before me. I know nothing about diesels, but im very eager to learn so go easy on the terminology or just explain in deep detail. Lol.

if it ticks at idle then gets worse the more throttle you give it could it be an exhaust leak or is it coming from the engine for sure? Driver side?

Its deff from the engine. Drake and Brett looked at it forever and couldnt find it. They are thinking they need to take it apart to find it.

if it is still under warranty i'd take it to the dealership... you might need to take it too a different one though if they won't look into the tick.

Its not under warranty anymore. To change repalce two glow plugs at the stupid dealership was over 300 bucks. Ill prob take it to the dealership in Santa Rosa instead of Napa.

oh shit, 300$ to change them? i could have done that easy. If it's in the engine it is going to cost a lot of money at a dealership to even diagnose it..

Could be a loose injector hold down bolt. They sometimes make a funny ticking sound when they aren't tight. How were the injectors tested?

It's very possible its an exaust leak. I've just never heard an exaust leak like this if it is one. And I know duramaxs are known for the tickin sound but this isn't the normal tick.

are you sure its not the famous type writer noise that many dmaxes have? There is a GM bulletin that someone posted on a forum somewhere that describes it and basically says its normal and dont try to fix it. I dont even remember what forum i read it on. Maybe somebody else can chime in with more info on that. it literally almost sounds just like a type writer. mine has it. it kind of comes and goes.

Ya I'm pretty sure its not the famous type writer noise. It's very distinctive from the normal tickin.
