Ok guys so im really intrested in buying a duramax and had a few questions. This would be my first chevy (or GMC) and first duramax. So what are the pros and cons of each year truck? I don't want a brand new truck so i think the LMM is out of the question. What ever truck i get will not stay stock by any means. I have heard the 01's dont have the piston issues that the others have. Is this true? Just trying to narrow down my choices and make it easier to find the best truck for me.

They are all good... The 01-04.5 LB7 have injector issues, The 04.5-05 LLY has overheating issues easy fix, the 06-07.5 LLY/LBZ have had issue with piston cracking on some of th higher HP trucks.

I have an LB7 and LBZ and both run great the LB7 is pushin 200K with the only issue having been injectors 4 times. 2 of thse time were dealer errors and they just flat screwed up the job. My LBZ is a true beast and I love it the 6 speed Alli on the 06 and up D-Max trucks is awsome.

Anyway good luck in your search and keep us all postd the guys and gal here can sure get you on the right path to BIG HP numbers

Thanks big block. I think i'm going to keep my eye open for an 05-07 lly or lbz truck. I'm looking for a daily driver that will also see the strip and maybe some pulling. It will probably get a 4-6 inch lift to help me get around and have fun after the winter snow storms. I haven't owned a truck yet i was afraid to get dirty and that ain't going to change.:D

I don't know depending on how much your going to bomb it you might be better off starting out with a 04 LB7. IIRC they have the least injector problems. Then you will have more mod $$$ and you won't be tearing down a newer truck that is still in real good shape. I love my LBZ through and wouldn't trade it for any other Gen truck. Now if I could afford 1 to have as a toy that wasn't going to be a totally max effort truck I would have a LB7.
