Figured I would start a thread to share with the great people on this site and try to show offmy new project. Hopefully it may help future twin turbo buyers make the descsion I made a few months back.
As with many, I got bit by the diesel hot rod bug. A quick history of my truck is it originally belonged to my father when he purchased new in 2001. Ever since the day he brought it home I knew I had to have it. I was the trucks "care taker" for over 8 years when finally a week after my 21st birthday my dad decided he was ready to let her go to me. The truck was never and will never see "bad" weather and I always wanted to turn it into as close as a show truck as I could afford so this is part of the beginning for me on what I hope to be a long journey. Only racking up 58,000 miles since new I figure I have a pretty good platform to start with so you will have to llet me know what you guys think:hug:
I intentionally set up this project to have the help from my dad. He has always been a great helping hand to wrenching on my truck and he knows its my passion and he has supported it the whole time. I hope to take those memories and form knew ones through this build with him and one day pass them to kids of my own. Also being that he just lost his father a few weeks ago, I know that now is a very important time to be spending with him so it couldnt have come at a better time.
With that being said, I spent a long road saving my $$ to get these here. I knew I wanted to make my twin turbo build as unique as the wallet would allow. I spent weeks and weeks looking as powder coat colors, and thinking of options I wanted. That was right around when I saw Trents group buy come up. Before I knew of Trent making twins, MPI was the company I was going to go with. It was there reputation of quality that inticed me. In the end, I felt that Trent really understood that I was trying to make something unique and alll the little details mattered greatly for this build. I spent many pm's back and forth with him and expressed my concerns and what I thought I was looking for and Trent always answered my questions very well and really gave me the felling that he's all about the details! Just what I was looking for. So options were discussed and that leads me to were we are now. I recieved them this evening and it was like christmas in August:rofl: My room was full of turbos and pipes and brackets. Very cool.
My dad helped me open it all up and we are both very impressed with Trents attention to detail. It looks to be a very well made kit and and very happy I made the descion I made to go with Extreme Prejudice Racing:thumb: I cant thank Trent enough for putting a sick kit together for us in the duramax community and still making it very affordable all while keeping the quality very high. I am really excited to start this build up. I know its not like some of the builds that go on here and I didnt make the twins myself but I hope someone will benifit from the write up I intend to put up for current and future viewers pleasure. Also I want to thank everyone on this awesome site that has helped my learn the steps to making these trucks go fast and I hope to one day give some info back!
Now for the details... I took my truck apart a few months back to send Trent some of my parts under the hood to be powder coated the same color as the twins. Another thing I asked about was the stainless hot pipe that was offered as an option and since I was going for unique, Trent suggested polishing it. Since I had never seen that before, I couldnt turn that down. Since the hot pipe was to be polished, I had the comp. housing done to. Levi's tubo and hot pipe blankets were another option and after hearing of the benifits, I couldnt argue so I got them to. So with out any more boring stuff, heres some pics
