I figured I would give a quick update on my new setup for this year. I am running the Danville 4094 stg2r with a race cover S482FMW as my twin setup. I have dual pumps and what I would guess to be about 100% over DDP's. All supporting mods with built motor.
First of all, tuning is everything with this turbo. Don't think you will be able to take some tune for any other VVT and make it work. You will need to start off of Mark's base tune.
My truck run's on 33's with 3.42 gears so my cruising rpm is always very low. At 65mph in 5th gear I am at 1700-1750rpm. I can let rpm go down to 1550, roll into the throttle and easily build boost and accelerate. I do get a little bit of smoke, but does not come close to "blacking out" the highway. By 1850 rpm, this thing lights like no other. I can go from 8psi to 50 psi in the blink of an eye. Okay, maybe a slow blink. I kid not. this thing spools instantly above 1850rpm.
My truck has never been this drivable. It is flat out awesome.
Now lets talk turbo brake. My first experience with the turbo brake was nothing short of crapping my pants and wondering what was wrong with my truck. I was cruising down the highway and made a little 4th gear pull up to 80mph. Rpm's around 2900. I let off the throttle and truck starts to slow down. Then, hello turbo brake. I damn near kissed the steering wheel. I thought something had seized. I look at my gauges, and drive pressure is at 80psi with no throttle input. After a fresh pair of "angel chaps", I have pulled all of the turbo braking out of my race tunes, and will use very judiciously on my tow tunes.
If you want a single charger or an awesome high pressure charger for a twin setup that will tow and give you awesome top end, this is the charger.
I will have some HP/TRQ numbers this weekend.
