I'm not usually one to whore out pics or videos but I'm really proud of my chummins so I wanted to share a video and see what you guys think. Some of you guys have probably seen the build thread on DF but for those who haven't i'll give a brief history.

My fiance and I bought this truck in college to pull her horse trailer around so she could barrel race. It was originally a 2wd (still is 2wd) with a 454/nv4500. Bought it for $1100 with the motor barely running. Put in a new fuel pump and corrected the timing and it ran like a raped ape @ 11mpg hwy and 6 towing. Fast forward to after school and owning a dmax and it never got driven. So instead of selling it I did the cummins swap. I started in late April of last year and we took it for the first diesel powered drive in the first week of October. It ran well and was getting just over 20mpg hiway. But it developed a misfire on one cylinder so I parked it.

Towed it to my buddies at husker diesel and they tested the injectors (very shot) so they put new stock ones back in, and also had the pump benched. Also had them put on a new lift pump, 4 turbo back w/muff and set the timing to 15.5*. Got it back this past weekend and it runs awesome so I wanted to share since I'm pretty happy with it now. Only other mods are the fuel plate slid forward, afc housing slid forward and the starwheel turned forward a tad. Not a powerhouse but way better than stock!

Its not show quality under the hood, but this was my first time ever pulling an engine, not to mention my first engine swap, and first diesel repower. I did it all on my own with no help in my 2 car garage with no lift and just a very basic set of hand tools. So im pretty proud. I drove it to work today and will be driving it for the rest of the week to get some mileage numbers. Hoping to get close to mid 20's but we'll see.

Enjoy the vid... I know my fiance had fun making it lol

Very cool. I was just thinking about doing this to my '98 regular cab.

If you decide to do it let me know. I've got a whole detailed build thread with tons of pics on another forum. Ill give ya the link and it'd probably help you out a bit.

And thanks for the nice words guys. Good to know that some of the pros like it too!

Looks good ill have been working on finishing mine for 4 years this summer, had it a Turbo and driveshaft away from being on the road but then, I bought a dmax I started a frame off since it was so rusty. Post up that link I'd love to see how you went about your swap.

thought I'd give a little update. Went through the first tank of fuel. 430 miles and about 300 of them were highway to and from work. The rest were in town and f'n around on gravel.

430 miles and 18.7 gallons = 22.99 MPG. I'm VERY happy!

Hey gr8shot great build I liked the idea so much I decided to build one lol nah I'm actually in the middle of my build and I had a few questions about what you did. You seem to bd the only other person who has done this build with a stock nv4500 2wd I have a 96 6.5 2wd nv4500 also I have the tranny peeped to mate to the cummins . I was just wondering if you kept you tranny where it was or if you moved it back and cut a drive shaft ? Also what mounts did you use? And which radiator intercooler combo did you use? Any info us greatly appreciated I'm in the middle of my build and I'm stumped

I made my own motor mounts so I could have the engine back far enough to have room for the fan. After it was said and done I took somewhere around 5" off the driveshaft if I remember right. I just unbolted the tranny crossmember and moved it back to where it needed to be and drilled new holes for the bolts and bolted it up.

For the radiator and IC I used parts from an intercooled first gen (91.5-93 ve pump) cummins. They're a little smaller than the second gen stuff but do the job plenty well for me. I had the radiator professionally cleaned and a couple leaks patched and it has plenty of cooling capacity.

I've got about an inch of clearance between the oil pan and crossmember, and with the fan on I have about 1" between the fan and radiator. But the thing runs so cool that I took the fan off and even ran all summer with no fan and no issues.

Another headache avoidance tip ill give you (if you haven't figured it out already). Use the stock GM master/slave setup. Once you modify the mounting flange to fit on the cummins bellhousing, just swap in the pushrod from a Dodge slave cylinder and you're done. It'll work and feel just like stock. The Dodge slave is a different bore size than the GM. So if you try and mix and match you wont get the proper stroke length and the clutch wont fully disengage when you press the pedal in.
