Well maybe it isn't a Duramax but it is a distant relative..

My commuter car..1981 Isuzu Powered Chevy Chevette, 128k on the clock and 40+mpg. I travel about 250 miles a week and this helps on the fuel bill.
I plan to swap the engine and tranny into a small truck at some point.

Wow....and old Chevette still running...and in what appears to be pretty darn good shape. You get a "congrats" from me for that. :D

They used a similar motor, 2.2L I believe, in the S-10s. A buddy of mine found a diesel S-10 with a bad body and we swapped it into a 2.8 S10, easy swap. No power but great economy. He plans on putting a charger on it, said maybe off of a Kubota.

Cool find and good luck with your swap.

I had one in highschool, it only lasted 2 weeks. E brake slid it into a creek and left it there. if you put 3 chicks in it......damn thing wouldn't get out of it's own way. It was a nasty baby poop brown with matching nasty interior.

I saw one of those in Sacramento last month. Jason the gentleman from Diesel Power Mag. drove one to the track. I think he told me he got 50 mpg

I had a roommate in college that had a Diesel Rabbit. Had to warm the engine w/a cheap BBQ grille when it got to -25*. BBQ Rabbit.

This is what one my buddies had at school, well, it was a 96 not a 08, but look at what ford offers in europe, a 100mph car and a highway economy of 76mpg.

and the GM version, Vauxhaul is GM's trading name in the UK.

that pisses me off, a ford that gets 70mpg and runs a 14 sec 1/4 mile

I'd actually like to find one in good shape to daily drive. They aren't *that* bad if maintained properly. Just can't be in much of a hurry... well, I guess you could be but you'd have better luck pissing up a rope and staying dry than getting anywhere in a hurry.

In all seriousness, can they handle interstate speeds alright? Like 70-75mph???

Nice! Its nice having a smaller diesel around to drive and not worry about1 There was a short artical in the newest Dieselpower about the one that Kat mentioned, Bought right here in Wichita, KS! The pic was in Old town in front of River City Brewery, kinda cool seeing somthin local in a magizine and recognizing it!

I just got me an 81 Mercedes 300SD for a new Daliy driver! Its the big kahuna "S" class of the car line:D 3.0L inline 5 cylinder turbodiesel. Not brand new but not a POS either, got some fixin to do and a repaint and ill have me a real nice car. My back is shot and its nice to have a comfy ride now! Calculating MPG this tank but it should net me 35mpg and better after im done modding her! :D

It has no problem running 70 on the freeway..aslong as the ground is fairly flat.
