I need a program to convert CDA files to AAC files I think :baby:

I have all the kids music in ITunes. Well Allison's I-Pod's screen broke. So I have two options. Buy her a new I-Pod or figure out a way to convert the music to AAC so she can listen to it on her Nintendo DSI which takes a SD card but it has to be in AAC format.

I tried to download a couple of the free decoders but was given the copy right error trying to convert them with I-Tunes I got the same error. Even though all the music was either bought though I-tunes or CD's I have bought.

Anyone have anything they use that might work?

Kat- Itunes already stores files in AAC format. The problem you are running into is the DRM (copywrite protection) that Itunes uses. The i-pod is the only portable music player that supports Itune's (and the itunes music store) fairplay DRM protection.

So...the files are the right format...just they have the DRM because they were bought on the itunes music store. :(

AFAIK, there arent any programs that can directly convert the latest version of a FairPlay-protected AAC file (or, an .m4p file) to an unprotected AAC file (or, an .m4a file).

Your only option is to burn all the protected songs to a CD, then RE-rip them into itunes...which will strip the FairPlay copy protection, as itunes will rip the files as straight unprotected AAC files.

Clumsy, but it works. Another option is to setup a virtual CD burner. That way you dont have to waste time and money on CD's that you are ultimately only going to use once and then throw away.

You guys are not helping me :witch: Where is my broom :villagers:

maybe try going into my computer>control panel>system>device manager>and disable your real CD-RW drive and see if it gives a line to select on. I don't see why it wouldn't work with vista?

Kat, In the future save yourself a lot of trouble and ditch iTunes. It sucks. Amazon is cheaper, better quality and DRM free. Your OS isnt the problem with converting your music. If you are still having trouble, send me a message and we'll figure it out.

Here is what I'm dealing with.

Between the kids and I we have 2 I-phones, 1 I-pod, and now for them to listen to music on their DS-I's they have to be in AAC format.

I would like everything to be in one place. Unfortunately my new computer is Vista :baby: It's has the biggest hard drive and kids are not allowed to mess with it.

I am open to suggestions
