hello everyone, i am currently in the process of possibly buying a new truck and ive done some research on the duramax and being a chevy really like it. Some where in my research i read people making claims of getting 28 mpg out of the truck after chiping and doing the basic intake and exhaust mods i was wondering if this was at all possible or if anyones truck is getting close to the same mpg

I havent been able to beat a consistant 25mpg's.

gotten higher once but not able to repeat.

And I've got a 2wd, tuner, intake, exhaust, h20/meth, blah blah blah.

Next I'm putting on an air dam. Not the monster 24 inch tall ones I've seen on a couple dodges that gotta scrape any little bump.
Pulling the airdam off the parts van and putting it on the truck. See if it helps any.

Stepping up one nozzle size on the mpg meth nozzle, from a 175 to a 275 to see if I can get a little better control too.

Put ina SUPERCHIPS or BULLYDOG and you'll get 25-28 GUARRANTEED! Or at least that is what the guy at the local speed shop that sells em told me. He swore that an LMM with a BULLYDOG will get 28MPG running 80 all day long. I simply looked at him and said that the DIC don't count. I average 20 on mine hand calculated, but I'm running the short 245/75/16 tires in a good highway tread with 3.42 gears and a mild tune with ALOT of timing down low and lowered shift points. I've seen right around 23-24 running 70 in traffic on interstate, but I know that isn't the norm for many.

I've been thinking about the 3.42 gears too. that work good for you? do you tow with it at all?

I had 4.10's before so I don't really have a comparison, but it towed 8K the other day and you couldn't hardly tell it was back there. I was able to pull out into traffic with it and accelerate about as fast as most cars can with 6-7K in tow, and this is with my tow tune that is REALLY mild(maybe 40HP over the stock 300). If you have EFILIVE to take advantage of the lower gears(your shift points will need to be lowered some), then I don';t see any downside to them. It is the equivelant drop of going from 245/75/16 tires to 285/75/16 tires which is a pretty common tire swap that people do.

The Norco's
Bone stock 49 state LB7 crew cab 2X, 18 mpg no matter how I drive it. There are some early claims from GM about the new LML getting 25 solid so if you have the cash and the time wait for awhile and see what happens....

Drove an 07 CCLB 3500 dually LMM with edge on tow. Grossing 14,000 pounds for 500 miles and 27000 pounds for the other 500 miles. We run the the ohio turnpike and penn pike. We had the cruise set on 74 mph and the slowest we went up the one mountain was 70 mph. :D The truck was in regen 50% of the time.

We averaged 7.66 MPG for the entire trip. We could pass everything but a fuel stop.

You mean you dont get 22mpg while towing a D6 CAT???

Some of the guys on this board need to weigh their campers, I bet they dont weigh near as much as they think. 14K will put you in single digit turf every time.

Nah, not a cat... it was a 5250 Case IH Front Wheel Assist. It weighed 12,500.:baby:
