I want to move my ecm from its stock position to the spot where my drivers side battery is. My question is dose the ECM need to insulated from all mounting pionts like it is in the factory holder or can it be in contact with ground (-)?

Thanx
Caleb

Pat hasn't had any problems with it. Right now the TCM is mounted on top of the battery on Casper.

ECM needs to be insulated. If its grounded you can run into issues with it not wanting to start.

AHH ok i better do that then! I have a plan but i just need some parts and the dang hardware store closes @ 8. Dang livin out in the middle of nowhere!!!!

Thanx John!

Mostly i needed a clean looking place to put the fan control, so lost the weight of a battery and found a good place to put them, then i just decided to move the ecm because it looked rather easy to do at this point, plus it will give me some more room to make som bigger intercooler piping when ever i become less lazy and actually make some!!!

Looks good!
And yes insulate it well for two reasons, I have heard the grounding issue can cause starting problems - something about static electricity IIRC. And also to keep vibration to a minimum.

The insulation is a damper for vibration, the ECU is inside grounded with the battary and vehicle. You need the ECU grounded in some way but it's already made inernaly, so don't worry.

Thanx, I now have it insulated from all my mounting points with rubber washers top and bottom and i put heat shrink on the screws where they go through the ecm so the sides of the screws wont touch!

I moved mine that same location mounting it up off the a custom tray with 1/2" rubber washers, then mounted the other on top of it using hi dens foam. You can lose the bracket under the (almost 2.0 lbs) battery tray mounted to the core support as well...
The wires looked exposed so i picked up some 1" and 1.5" shrink and shrunk it all down over the wires, thought when i changed the angle they would be suceptible water spray. They make the shrink in pretty colors to...

The bitch was tieing the batteries back into the fuse box from the back... to the stock location! big cable no likey bendie.

Looks sweet man, congrats!!

i'd like to do mine too but im going to get some rubber isolator type mounts to mount it with, much better than the washers IMO. think MSD has some but im gonna use some nice soft BMW ones like i mounted my lift pump with! Looks good guys!
