OK, so I'm not the nicest guy to my truck, but I am having some suspension work done (switching from the Rancho to the Cognito Lift with UCAs & such), and the garage calls me to tell me that both engine mounts are broke and the transmission mount is broke. I'm really not even making that much horsepower right now because I have been afraid to use my high level tunes because I only have a limited amount of transmission work done. I really haven't been off-roading hardly at all with this truck, and it has about 85,000 miles on it (I am the original owner).

Does anyone know how common this is, or what may have caused these to break? Should I replace the mounts with something other than GM parts? I don't think I've heard of anyone else having this problem.

Thanks.

It is common for our trucks to break motor mounts , but not at your power level , I have seen it before though , def needs to be addressed with what you have planned for your truck , you have 2 options 1- is to bolt the stock mounts if you search around there is plenty of info on it , the second is to buy Erich Merchants new "Poly" mounts . And X2 I would want proof , if all 3 were broken you def would have noticed it

Thanks Trent.

The mechanic is supposed to be sending me pictures. Unfortunately, I don't know that I can get down there to see it in person Monday morning. I am a little suspicious as well because he said the back of my transmission was an inch or two toward the passenger side of the truck. That is hard to imagine given that I have Mike L's transmission brace helping to anchor the transmission to the motor.

In any case, looks like I need to get something done and get it done quick if I hope to get my truck back soon.

I have had issues with all those mounts too. I put the Merchant's mounts on my engine and haven't had another issues with any of the mounts since. They are very nice.

Bolting the mounts are not bad but were ever your truck is not sure I would trust them. I have beat the hell out of my truck and mounts were fine then bolted them when I built the motor. The trans mount is still the stock mount. I also sell the ones from Eric Merchant or OEM but the stockers are high and Erics are nice.

What shop is it at? One here in Vegas?

The "Super Duty Shop" LOL. Chad from Alligator recommended them, and while they don't know a lot about the Duramax, they installed my Cheetah 68 and several other parts & I haven't had any problems.

Anyone know what new mounts from the dealership cost?

Thanks.

I believe they get over a $100 a piece for them IIRC:rolleyes: But Henry Can get them for you a bit cheaper.. Or if you want to buy and used set I have 4 of them sitting at the shop:thumb:

Anyone got any info on the transmission mount? I can't even seem to find any posts about broken transmission mounts. Is there even stronger ones available?

Thanks again.

Has the truck ever been wrecked? I have seen something exactly like this before. The truck had been wrecked, and the frame had been bent in the wreck. The body shop that straightened the frame apparently didn't get the motor mounts back in the correct position. You could lay under the truck and see the driver's side mount pad that the motor mount bolts to was rolled toward the front of the truck. That was causing the tail of the transmission to be kicked over toward the driver's side by about 2 inches. We had pulled the motor to replace a cracked head and a bent rod (because it had been hydro-locked). When we pulled it the driver's side mount was in two pieces, and the passenger's side was hanging by a thread. The transmission mount was also completely torn apart. I hope your problem isn't the same problem.

Ah, Josh you may have hit the nail on the head. Although it hasn't been in any serious wrecks, I was hit a year or two ago by a lady in a Ford Bronco II. Really didn't do much damage, but screwed up the passenger side front quarter panel. I suppose that could have done it? Really wasn't much of a jolt as far as I was concerned though, no air bag deployment on either car, no injuries, (and she had no insurance!). Cost me about $2,000 to fix as I recall. Think that may have done it?

It is possible. It really doesn't take much to tweak a frame if you get hit right. Did she hit you from the side? Either way, I would take it somewhere and have them check the frame.

A good friend of mine works for that shop, I will call him tomorrow and see what he knows but I would say that is a good shop.

I'm buying new mounts because it is going to significantly delay the work on my truck otherwise. $290 :( LOL.

You can have 2 of the 4 sitting in my shop for $100.00 + shipping if you want? There in good shape with no cracks or dry rot.. Regardless I would bolt both of them next time, its easy, quick and cheap insurance..
