Hey not sure if in right spot or not but looking to build a most basic motor build as im not looking for the billion horse mark, so my question is Im gonna get an lbz block just have it honed for stock lb7 pistons and plan to just put lbz rods in it, how much power would it handle respectivily without going through the roof?? Also would i want to delip the pistons or what? Im also planning on using an lbz crank, just want real pointers not the hey well you should buy this and that and blah blah blah cause like i said its not gonna go for the billion horse power mark. Itll be a single turbo truck and duel fuelers and bigger sticks in it, Thanks alot guys:thumb:

Unless you are going to get the work done cheap, I would go with good rods, you don't gain a lot with the LBZ rods for what you pay. So you have a $7000 engine that is good for 700 HP or a $9000 engine that is good for 900 HP
Only way I would do LBZ rods if I could do all the machine work myself, but that is just me. I almost did the LBZ rods myself but I'm really glad I didn't.

Edit these numbers are about what an entire build would cost

x2 Its not worth putting lbz rods in for what your going to gain

You aint kidding, do the rods, you'll be glad you did. I'm gathering parts now for a build and to keep cost down I'm doing nothing internally that adds power like a cam and heads. Just what it takes to make a solid engine, rods, pistons, keyed cam and crank and head studs. I will probably do valve springs and retainers also.

Yeah thats what im talking about i just want a solid engine that wont blow up, i mean ill key the cam and stuff but yeah im not wanting any of that stuff, ill more then likely mildly port the heads nothing major everything works better with free flowing air!

Built my short block for 5500 and ill bet you could do it for less than that. That was with a bit of spluging/not taking chances in some areas (machine shop was a big one).

Its good for 1000hp assuming the pistons stay together. Reliably id put it around 800 if you build the turbos, fuel and tuning to be concervitive at that level. It gest daily driven on a 550-600hp tune and will see 700+ when ever i hit the track but at this point that will be rare. Id rather put money into other things.

Over all ive got around 9.5k after the motor build but that included the new injectors, 45% over tips, dual pumps, and other little odds and ends to pump up the power

Hell im gathering up parts for my other Lb7 block and crnak I have at my house. Rods was the limiting factor for me. I got some LMM rods ready to use, but weighed my options and I know I would be concerned about them. Once the engine goes in I plan on never messing with the internals again on conservative tuning. The shortblock would be done if I went the LMM route, but decided against it.

well aslong as i dont keep beating on my stocker i should have plenty of time before im in dire need of a built motor so knock on wood that she survives next year racing with bigger sticks and dual fuelers ha

With good tuning lbz rods, cut pistons, studs, keys it could live at 700 HP if you can keep it there but if you have any desire of going for more I'd do rods. My stock cut pistons have held up good at 1000+ HP so far.

Ken if I did it again all I would do is rods. For a DD you dont need ported heads and all the extra stuff like you were saying. Rods, key cam and crank, stock LB7 pistons and done. There have been other trucks out there with uncut and uncoated LB7 pistons running high HP applications. Just my opinion.

Dont need ported heads but im a big beliver in them and if you only want to go into the motor 1 time i would do them while your in there and be done with it.I also like the coated pistons as they will take more heat and hopefully last longer.I dont want to ever have to go back into my engine so i did alot of stuff and i was stillrunning the stock turbo for awhile untill i got done being but hurt from my motor build but i knew where i wanted to go in the end and that drove me to build for the future.just my 2 cents .Id start gathering some parts as they suface i already have a cheap lb7 short block for you start looking for rods studs gaskets and so on.

yeah adeso thats pretty much excatly what i plan on doing, how does your set up like the tripples and dual cp3s?

I love them, a few people have ridden in the truck (sickdiesel is one of them), they spool really nice, I have 0 issues towing with them, and I dd all the time. I wish I had bigger than 60 over sticks, even on the big uS tune she runs clean down the track. I DD on about a 550ish HP tune and love it. I know he isn't a vendor on here but Scott did a nice job on the kit. Lots of people running Trents kit too. Only think I would change is maybe 80 over sticks
