Modified up-pipe..tap for EGT?

I've been tooling around with the idea of deleting the EGR completely and I'm thinking about just cutting and welding the stock up-pipe. I was curious as to if this would be an OK spot to drill and tap for an EGT probe. Would it be too far up the stream, essentially, to do any good?

I think if I cut it close enough I would be alright in terms of having the probe in far enough to do any good, I was just spit-balling the idea of if it would work or not.

The closer you are to the cylinder the more accurate your measurement will be.

That's what I was thinking. In reality, I'd be possibly ~8-10" further up the exhaust stream..would temps drop that much in that span to make a significant difference?

And Andy, that was the plan. Cut the riser as close as possible to the up-pipe itself so the probe can do its thing.
