Yes Mick and it has been disscussed many times;)[/QUOTE]

Well Simon - Have we got any answers? Do we attempt this mod or is it not worth it. Looks like not worth the Drama after the recent thread. Thats why Im looking for a supplier who has runs on the board

Mick, I'm going to be starting the regulator mod very shortly.

I think it is a very good mod to do if it is done correctly and very carefully. Anyone that has ever put the SD regulator on their truck has instantly seen gains in the rail pressure department. I think about 40-50% of the cases with the mod you have to do extra tuning to make it work. I have seen and heard of people modding the regulator and not having to change anything at all.

Larry has pioneered the tuning effort in getting the modded regulator to act like stock. TNR has also done the porting of the low pressure gear pump as well as the regulator, I believe. TNR's truck runs amazing for a stock charger truck, right on the heels of freighttrain with all of it's mods. There are others here that has also had success with the do-it-yo-self mod.

Definitely worth it IMO.

well, what I have is a modified ATS pump. I have no idea what they do tho them. They no longer sell them and I can't get anything out of them as to what they did to it. It is claimed to flow some 30% more than stock.

It has an LBZ regulator on it. I'm undecided on whether or not I'm going to run it or not. It also has their old "triple feed" line setup for it. I am going to give that a whirl. According to them, with the extra feed lines, it should flow as much as 45% over stock pump. In their original triple feed configuration, they use a kicker pump. It's basically just a really high pressure FASS pump that comes on via a hobbs switch and X-boost. I'm gonna try to use a mitusa at high pressure instead of the kicker pump.

I'm going to be opening up the gear housing and see if it's been ported like Relentless says to do and if not, I'll be doing that.

I'll probably try the LBZ reg. first and if that's not satisfactory, I'll be going to a modded LB7 regulator. If I still can't get it on my own. SD will be on order. :D

That's the setup I am going to try initially. If that isn't enough to fuel my 2.5 charger, I'll find something else. I like John at FloorIt and have seen first hand (as have any others that have pulled agains Wes Wade from KY in his CR Dodge) that they can produce serious power in this class. HOWEVER, a friend of mine has an II Stage 2 that we'll be trying this year and will let you know good or bad how it does in this class with a healthy engine and charger setup.

Final thought. II is supposed to revist the CP3 in a couple months and will really be coming out with an extreme CP3.3 I'm really curious to see what they can get of a CP3.3 with a billet housing. ;) Hopefully they get to this sooner than later.

Thanks Craig - So you will be modding the regulator and not touching the stock CP3, am I right?

I wonder why they would stop making them if they were so good Mitch

I do know Mick that company;s are having idle problems. Just like Joey has. I talked with Brayden last Friday who will be releasing his modded LBZ Regulator but due to idle problems he needs another month before its released. If your truck won't be a DD and don't mind surging at idle give Brayden a call.

Are the LBZ reg's or the LB7 one's having the surging problem or both? LBZ a triangle, LB7 a slit from a rectangle. I would think the LB7 reg would have less surge issues, since the slit is for idle versus the peak of the triangle?

Thanks Paint. But unfortunately my Twin Supercharged, Banks Inlet Manifolded, 3" Off the Groud Truck with 4 Link Rear End and 19" Rubber has got to able to idle right, after all its still a daily driver:cool2:

On an LB7/LLY it will allow you to achieve 180mpa/26000psi whereas it was designed for 160mpa/23000psi. Does that help? More pressue = better atomization = more power.

Cool - didnt know the goal of the mod (its limits). So in effect it can bump up the LB7/LLY CP3 to LBZ/LMM Capability? Is the regulator the only part that GM swapped when they released the new ones or what? What Im saying is how did they achieve the result vs. how everyone else is.

The LBZ CP3 is different. I believe Mcrat said it flows around 8% more. I have a spare LB7 regulator apart now that I am getting ready to mod. Not sure yet if I'm going to take the spare LB7 pump apart yet.

I have 2 core CP3's here that I plan on doing some major work to. I think I have figured out a good way to get them to flow more... I will get some details out to you guys as I begin to test them.

I don't think getting them to flow more is the problem... but rather to get them to run right. So there might be a fine line between sacrificing flow for smooth idling and smooth daily driving.

Mine has a very slight surge at idle when cold and goes away after only a minute or two of running. Drop it in gear or put some load to it and it is not noticeable either. FWIW, it's similar to what Craig's V6 tune would randomly do on some trucks.

I also haven't really messed with the tune much since modding it. (mod'd stock LB7 piece)
