Modded turbos

This is more curiosity than anything but I have seen that most modded turbos, mainly the borgs, have a groove pattern machined into the compreasor housing air inlet. See this on a lot on the danville turbos. Just wondering why it is done and if it actually helps with airflow? I assume its to smooth the airflow? Just bored and curious

Care to show a pic? I assume you are talking about the MWE groove, you'd be hard pressed to find a factory turbo nowadays that doesn't have one.

This is a turbo thats currently in the sale section but all the machined grooves on compressor inlet bore

Ok, not the mwe groove I thought you were talking about. Maybe to smooth out turbulence in the incoming air?
