For a mild rebuild for a tune only/lift pump/ max effort tune truck, just curious on some options. I know suncoast makes great kits, a few people around me have ppe stage 5 kits. Wondering what the difference between the ppe stage 4 kit and raybestos gpz kit is in power difference. They both only run 5 c3 clutches, no machined pistons or apply plates in either. Now that the gpz has been out for a while, has it proven to be an OK mild rebuild kit? Or are the old altos in the ppe kit a better option. Just curious. Thanks

No such thing as a mild rebuild kit anymore. Clutches will be the same count as a 1,000 hp build. Difference is billet shafts, pressure mods, billet stator in the converter and the special mods done to the internals.

I just installed a gmax6-r kit for a buddy's truck which has a socal built motor and twins. i have no experience with allisons and dont know how long it will last but took my time and its been working excellent so far. I already have another one on the stand that's going to get the same thing done with billet shafts. Going to tear the one thats in the truck now down and see how everything looks after a few thousand hard miles.

I get that but I was just asking for the old man that has a 400hp truck and pulls a trailer every day. Not everyone needs balls to wall builds unfortunately

I personally have seen a Stage 4 PPE with a Precision ML hold up to years' of abuse. From towing, drag racing, pulling, plowing it has surpassed his expectations. As long as the builder is capable of quality work and you trust the person working on it, there would be no worry in running that kit.

Thats not the case with Suncoast G-Max kits.

I get what you're saying about not needing an all out build but I've been down that road with a customer recently. By time you factor in the overhaul gasket kit, sump & spin on filter & hydraulic mods you're better off just getting a Suncoast gmax 5-3 or 6-3 kit that includes everything.
