I've got ongoing problems with my 4l85e behind my 06 express van, lly dmax, 3500.

It needs work now and will soon be going in for another repair. This is getting old fast.

Do you have any thogughts/ideas/parts available?

Thanks, James

Without knowing what it's doing I don't know. First thing I would do is install a Transgo reprogramming kit. There are some great converters available.

Thanks for the help Mike. I got the van scheduled for a tranny repair from GM Jan 5. Wont know anything till they pull it out. I'll probably do the transgo after I get it back.
Still having 40,000 mile on my trans warranty, do you (or anyone) know if the transgo affects the transmission warranty?

Cross drill in the pump needs to be done when trans is apart for full effect of the kit.

Hmm. Didn't know that. Glad I'm asking questions now. Guess I'll have to have a talk with the dealership when it goes in. They know of all the problems its having. I told them I'm not in a hurry to get it back once they take it apart, but I would like to do whatever we can so maybe it can go more than a few months without needing another trans repair. I did mention me suppling some aftermarket componants for them to put in. They didn't say no yet.

GM extended my trans warranty to 90,000. I asked the dealer twice about putting in transgo and keeping my warranty. They wont touch it.

I'm at 49000 miles, and another 41,000 left on my trans warranty. This is my 3rd complete trans. And the second trans was pulled out, had a reverse band and piston put in it, and put back in.

I think the transgo would be a good idea, but the way this thing is going thru transmissions I don't want to void my warranty.

1st one had a whine only in 1st at low speed. Took me 31,000 miles to convice them something was wrong with it. It was a spun bearing in the rear of casing, not replacable so they gave me another trans. That one blew reverse at 7000-8000 miles. they fixed it and with in 1000 miles had another 1st gear whine. Now they pulled that one and haven't told me what was wrong with it yet.

Hey, ripmf666, a local guy at another dealer ran it for me already, thanks for the help.

He said GM is out of stock on my trans.

Milke L., I see suncoast has a 4l80e, do they have the 4l85e?

Got my van back. I guess there is a bulletin addressing the whine in 1st and 2nd gears in some of these 4l80/85e transmissions. They replaced the trans & converter. We'll see what happens now.
