Well, I think I may have found my coolant leak. Rear passenger side, between head and block. I know it's loosing coolant slowly, but other than that, I haven't noticed any other signs of leakage. I've been getting the "Low coolant level" every couple of months. The colling system doesn't seem to pressurize any more than normal from temperature. The only other possibility would be if that was runoff from the time or two I've leaked coolant on the top of the engine. Assuming it is in fact the leak, and not just the previously mentioned runoff, does this leak mean I'm likely to have a larger HG failure, of will it likely be ok for quite some time?

Edit: I just poured some water on the top of the engine about where the coolant has been leaked, and I don't think the residue on the block is entirely from that; It MAY be partially, but the water's path only came as far forward as the blue circle and only made a 3/16" thick path down the block along the path of the blue line.

Is that the PS rear? If so there is also a plate on the rear cover 2x3" it has a gasket and seals off the coolant going in to the heads from the oil cooler it is possibel that that might be leaking.

Yes, It's the passenger side; It's on the side, about 1-2" forward of the rear edge.

Maybe I'm blind or dumb, but where is this plate? I couldn't see anything that looked like that in any of the pics I found, and the Oil cooler is on the drivers side, so why would there be a plate on the PS?

It is directly opposite of the oil cooler ( opposite side ) there is a plate on the one side, oil cooler other

I doubt that is it,but be better than a HG

Ahhh... Ok, no, I don't think that's it; this appears to be coming from the seam between the head and block :(. Guess I need to work hard for the cash to buy that LBZ motor.

Fortunately, it's not leaking a lot... yet. Hopeully it'll hold out until I can get that motor.

Maybe it would be woth a shot to try and tighten the head down? Atleast in that corner? Might make it worse to?

I had a leak exactly like that. Was positive I had a leak, but ended up being the o ring on the thermostat leaking, and coolant running down and "exactly" looking like yours.
