I have a quick question. I have searched all over the forum on how to do this and I cannot find it.

I plan on ordering a 5 inch intake from bills custom intakes with his 3.5 inch turbo horn.

I know people say you have to have the MAF rescaled and I saw the forums how to do it. Problem is, is that I don't have EFI Live. So how do I rescale it without that?

I know dealer can do the rescale for an lly with an lbz intake, doubt anyone of the dealer monkeys has a clue what to do for a 5" intake. You really need efi live.

Yeah I was afraid of that I just don't want to have to worry about the trans is all. Really all I want to do to the truck at the moment is new intake, bigger exhaust, and the turbo horn.

Why spend the money on it if you aren't going to use it to it's full potential? I would build the trans way before I put a 5" intake on it.

I plan on eventually putting EFI on it and also building the trans. But with only intake, exhaust, and a turbo horn I wouldn't think that I would need to build the trans right away. I just got done putting in new injectors I don't want to have to jump into the trans yet I'm trying to take small steps with this.

The only reason that I want to go to the 5 inch exhaust now is so that I don't have to buy another one later down the road. Maybe I'm going about this wrong That's why Im asking is to get opinions.

Do you have any plans on upgrading the turbo? If so leave the stock intake on there. Save for a trans build and EFI. Then turbo and intake.

True you could use the money you were going to spend on the intake on EFIlive and just tell the tuner you have a stock trans and want trans safe tunes they can make tunes for that. Then just have them updated after you build the trans and so on.

I ran an 80hp efi tune for almost a year with no problems. Until I did a few hard runs on the freeway and limped it. I immediately saved up and built the trans 3 weeks later.

Now for the intake don't waste your money. My tunes are still setup for a factory turbo and intake. I now have a 4" intake and never got it rescaled and the truck is very laggy. I had a mixture controller on the truck to make up for it and I just recently broke it when removing my dash. I've lost almost 15lbs of boost and the truck won't get out of it's own way. Unless you plan on tuning the truck don't waste your time and money on a bigger intake.

I toss the turbo thought around more than 100 times daily. We all talk about it at diesel school but none of us really want to commit to it. IF I were going to in YOUR opinion what is a good single. I really don't want to much lag. My friend has huge turbo on his truck it doesn't lite till almost 2500

A 66mm is a good upgrade.

Do not change the intake and need to rescale until you have the ability to rescale it. It will drive terribly and be lazy. Take your time and do it the right way and you will be happy with what you get in return.

Yeah after speaking to an instructor today about the difficulty of this I have decided to wait on an aftermarket intake until I have EFI.
