Lowered truck rims and tires way outside wheel well

Well I am running approximately a 3/5 drop (I have 2" drop spindles) on my 07 classic with 20x10 -12 offset with a 5" BS. Unfortunately these stick out past my front fenders pretty decent, and with 285/50/20 it does rub a bit. So, since I got pulled over for them extending beyond the body line I am looking for a different setup.

Based in research I am thinking a 20x9 with a positive offset should do the trick? The question is how positive does everyone go with a dropped truck? Do most people run 285/50 and 305/50, or do some run 285/55 with a lowered truck? The only attraction with the 55 is I can get it E rated. Since I don't tow too much this might not be an issue.

So what I am wondering is, am I thinking correctly that a positive offset should clear on a lowered truck? Also will a positive offset pull the wheel/tire back under the truck? Lastly, I am just looking for any other recommendations y'all might have.

Thank you,

Paul
