Anyone ever have any issues with lower valve covers leaking after youv had your engine apart? The last two head gasket jobs iv done including mine this past weekend, have had oil weeping from the lower covers enough to make a quarter sized drop overnight. I used brand new gaskets. I still don't fully understand how a flat metal gasket is supposed to seal it :confused::confused: .

I guess I'm going to have to pull it apart and put a skim coat of GMS or international grey on both sides of the gasket.

I had problems the first time around with the driver's side rear stud not seating all the way into the block, and the valve cover wouldn't seal in that corner because it hit the stud. I have seen one or two other people with the exact same issue. Where are your leaks?

Back outter corner. If that's the case, I will grind the cover. I used a little 1/4" impact gun and ran all the studs down.

That still doesn't mean they went all the way down. I clean the holes out and chase the threads to make sure they are seated. I also only put them hand tight but to each their own

Mine are leaking as well. Ever since the studs. Not getting any worse, but come spring I'll fix them. Curious as to what needs to be done. I can't stand an oil leak. On my gravel driveway, I don't mind, but hate parking in the street at others houses so I don't ruin their concrete.

I've seen this many times and usually caused by the stud not seated all the way down. I do what Kyle does and haven't had a problem.

Anyone use a sealer called "Hylomar"? It was originally developed for jet engines by Rolls Royce. It is non-hardening and oils, solvents and temps don't much mess with it. It's blue toothpaste type stuff and I've found it to be really a good thing. It's not like the Permatex (N0.2?) but they are making it now, I think. I get it at Graingers.
