Leaving work and my oil pressure gauge jump to zero twice and went to the highest mark on the gauge. It never been that high ever. It stayed there for about 20 miles of driving. Then it started jumping all over the place then went to zero. Drove home 12 miles with the gauge on zero and the buzzer making noise. Engine has oil and is full of oil. Can it be the gauge or the sending unit and how do I check for it.

I have a similar problem at start up with no oil pressure (not doing it lately). Truck runs for about 5 seconds, DIC message Check Low Oil Pressure comes on for split second, oil pressure comes up and message goes off. Some of the guys on here said it could be the oil pressure switch, stepper motor in the cluster, or the oil pump itself (something about the nut that holds the gear in place backing out). They said to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the oil galley near the oil filter and see if it matches what you see on the cluster gauge. If it does match, then you are probably looking at the oil pump. If it doesn't match, it could be one of the other two. Hopefully someone else will chime in and also offer some suggestions (or correct me if I'm wrong). Good luck! :thumb:
