Story goes

I leave central ohio to day to head to TS in KY I get to one exit north of my destination and low coolant light comes on. I roll down the window and smell coolant, I pull into a station and coolant is low I grab a gallon and top off. No visable leak no drips or wet under the truck. I continue to TS to unload and on to the hotel no overheating issues temp remains constant and normal. This is a 2002 Cali emissions serria any ideas or suggestions on this problem 350 miles from home.

Thanks
RIck

If you smell coolant, there is a chance you just didn't see the leak, or it is running down the back of the engine. Hopefully it is not the head gaskets (you might not smell it if that was the case).

If you shut your truck off, does the upper radiator hose stay hard after the engine is cold?

Places to look for leaks: the heater hoses, EGR cooler, oil cooler, and turbo coolant lines (these are known to spring a leak occasionally).

Hopefully it's something simple & cheap!
