After driving my friends LB7 with a bigger turbo, i am addicted to the extra boost and want to upgrade my LBZ with a new spinner!

Requirements-

Want a nice upgrade that will allow me to still use this truck to tow and daily drive, dont want too much lag.

Want to stay at a " safe" boost level, dont want to worry about popping my pistons and dont want to add a dual fueler for safety reasons.

So what is a nice upgrade that will help performance, justify buying one and still be safe for my engine?

Also do they make aftermarket VVT's or do i just have to get a reg. wastegated turbo?

Im kinda lacking knowledge with Dmax turbo upgrades.

thanks!

What turbo did he have? You can go either way Tim. Everyone has their own opinions, some say they like to keep the VNT and go with something like a Danville or Cheetah. Other guys seem to be going on the S300/400 platform. If you like the characteristics of your stock VNT charger then Id stay with a VNT. If it were myself Id wait until Trent gets his LBZ twins rolling because the price difference isnt much. But you never know until you try :D

I would not be oppossed at all to twins! I'd like to have them but thought cost wise it might be smarter to stay single.

I have seen though that guys running twins have low EGT's and seem to have great reliability?

Have been on much lately with stuf, but trent is making a twin kit? Sweet!!

I like my HTT Promax. It RIPS and it tows.

I have to turn down the tune when I tow, but that is OK....I don't want any more rubber on the Airstream.

should be able to use his stocker for the small right

I was thinking as a single:angel:

Seriously though i liked the HTT but after only a few days i wanted bigger

I drove Abby a fair bit on the street last year with the 475 and it worked great but i never towed with it. I am pretty sure Dustin towed with his though?

Tuning makes all the difference!

However if you can afford twins I would go that way! After this year with the twins I am convinced. Trent is going to make me a set for the LLY eventually.

Its tough to beat a set of twins.

a Dustin loves his 475 and Chris (drholiday) loves his as well. i want to say they both have towed with them and chris towed dustin out to the DPC and that with with a stock cp3 and stock sticks and he said he had no problems. but i cant remember if he had to down shift ever. but you are right it is all in the tuning. i would like to have a 472 or 475 but i know i will want to twin it down the road and unless my truck was going to race often i think that is to large for a small turbo in a twin set up. Trent was talking to me about a 466 as the small and he wasnt sure what he would twin it off of maybe 510. but i figure WG it and you should be able to run a nice size set of twins that will still be able to tow and DD with out being very laggy at all.

im hoping i can add a turbo to my build but money will be the end say in that.

Ya tuning plays a huge roll!......My HTT would spool faster than a stock VVT.

Personally I hate VVT, I have been tuning my truck for years and even with all the tuning changes it is still a POS turbo.

Drive pressure from factory is on average 2:1 and hits 3:1 a fair bit! You can change the tuning and actually get it to a 1:1 ratio but it still sucks JMHO

I live in a 2700' elevation and if I lived closer and wanted to run a single i would not hesitate running a 475 again JMHO
