Why would you want a non-lockup trans for pulling with a diesel? Seems like a lot of wasted heat and power IMO.

NV4500 but I still think if your worried about cost the best bang for you buck would be a stock alli with a trans go and maybe a converter as long as it always stays in lo range.

Well that changes things, your certainly limited by size then and need to cosider gearing of the tractor and of factors without the right gearing there isn't to many transmissions that are going to appreciate the leverage that's going to be put on them without low enough gears.

run a manual VB 4l85E the FC/DC/IC are the same with the TH400 pluss you get TCC... and you wont be in 4th gear so you dont have to worry about it...

so now what would i do for a flywheel as well?

ide just need the setup out of a diesel van correct?

GM was smart on this... the allision and all other TC that run the large bolt cirlce will fit.. use the allison flexplate/flywheel also should use the 6 bolt TC.. along with the bell houseing pattern any GM 6 or 7 hole pattern will bolt right up.

i dont reccomend the 4L85 flexplate.. oem to oem the allison is a much better setup

getting the lower brace/cover off a van would be good as well, allows you to tie in to the bottom two bolt holes on the midplate but you still have to go through the starter hole for the TC bolts...

yeah van harness woudl make things simpler if you where to keep the 4l85 electronic... if going manaul VB that still allows for TCC lock-up you dont need it

You can run a 400 for what your wanting to do. It will work fine! You just need a GOOD torque converter from a company that understands big TQ at low rpm. A 13" will fit in a 400 case and will work better than most think. Your not towing up and down hills so a lockup will do very little for you. That is "IF" the converter on parr.
