Guys I'm gong got look at my first diesel hopefuly tommoro or Friday night. I've never owned one before and really don't know a ton about them. I am looking for some advice on what to look for to see if th truck is ok. Its a 2003 ( so that lb7 I believe) gmc 2500 hd. 89k on it at a dealership. The asking price for it is 14900 but I can get it fo 11900 which sems almost to good to be true. Makes me think something is wrong with it. I ran a vin check (see vin check forum) shows the injectors were replaced in jan 07 with about 57k, a fuel pump shortly before that and glow plugg work before and after but then nothing after that. Help me figure out why this truck is such a good deal! I know about gas trucks pretty good so the sytems tha are the same I can diagnose ok its just the diesel specific stuff I know nothing about.

Thank you in advance

Well first of all the Duramax does not have a "fuel pump" per se like a gasoline engine would, it is a high psi CP3. So that was a major repair.

With the 01-04 trucks injectors will continually go out for the life of the truck.

04.5+ have much more reliable injectors and they are also external so much easier to replace than 01-04.

Check to see how many ownes it has had. Knew of a guy who bought a truck with 17 owners and didn't know why thing were wrong on it. Check to see if there are any signs of a tuner being loaded in which will tell you if someone was hard on the trans. Lb7 injectors normaly last longer then that around 100k from my reading so it could have gotten bad fuel which is why the cp3 was replaced too.

My bad on the wording of the pump, im still learning about these things. From the vin check it looks like the CP3 was done then the injectors were done shortly after bad fuel would make sence on that one

Very good to know about the injectors becoming external in 04.5 i didnt know that one.

If I replace the injectors in an lb7 with aftermarket ones do they still continualy fail in this motor? Meaning is the problem with the injectos from gm or is the problem elsewere in the truck causing the injectors to fail?

Its hit or miss on lb7 injectors. Keep fuel clean and run an aditive mine have went to 169k have seen as high as 190k on original injectors. I have seen other fail in as little as 30k.
