I'm looking at a SPOTLESS truck my friend's dealership took on trade. It's a 2wd 2002 Sierra Duramax LB7 with 144xxx. It's in awesome shape and I had my buddy who's a diesel mechanic check it out. It looks to be totally spotless. It's a one owner truck from down south, personal vehicle, I am in Michigan.

Although she's totally spotless and seemingly great (drivetrain looks great, undercarriage looks brand new, everything is super tight)...I'm worried about what seems to be a sure thing of an injector failure with these trucks. I am a decent mechanic, I build my own race cars from ground up...and my close friend is a diesel mechanic so I (think) I can do an injector swap if need be later.

Anyone have any experience with these trucks? Is it really a for sure injector failure? How long should these trucks be expected to live? Thanks!!!

The truck goes retail for $13,500 and I would be getting it at $10,000 out the door from my buddy...just what the guy traded it in for.

Any other big problems with them? My buddy has an 02 and he's got 380k and he's STILL on the original injectors. Are the Duramax's common to see them running around with 500k like the 7.3? My plans are to keep it for 3 yrs as my daily driver and then retire it to a race trailer only truck and only maybe drive it 2500 miles a year pulling the 24ft enclosed trailer.

I just got the carfax and it looks spotless....It was in every 6 mos at least for oil and filters. It also had the diff flushed etc at regular intervals. All signs point to yes, thanks a lot for all the replies guys!!

Wow, you sir hold the record I think for stock sticks... Most I have heard of is around 300k. I don't even want to think about how many sticks I will beat at by the time i hit 560k

On edit I see it's kilos

Man these huge repair bills I am reading about are kinda scary though. $4000 if you have the dealer do injectors, read about some poor dude dropping like $8000 in the motor. I was moving toward diesel because I was hoping it was cheaper to just keep a truck for a long time.

Sounds like a nice truck except for 2WD. Down south is one thing but in Michigan winter you won't like 2WD. That's a deal killer.

I thought the same thing. Even being down south, I wouldn't even consider a 2wd diesel. There's just too much weight on the front of these things. TOB
