Locked out ECM

Before I bought my lb7 over a year ago my brother in law(who i bought it from) took it to a shop to have an edge with attitude installed. They could not get it to work and said the ECM was "Locked out" and pretty much sent him on his way. Well now that I own the truck I'm looking to get EFILive but can't if the ECM is locked.

So my question is, what would cause it to be locked out, and is getting a new ECM the only solution?

Take it to the dealership and have them reflash the ECM back to stock.

Will do, I heard that some cheap tuners will tune the truck then lock in that tune causing it to be locked out. I am curious what kind of tune it currently has, if any

problem is there is thousand of seeds it can lock an ecm with, when you use a tech2 or MDI at the dealer to flash it, its already collected the data for whats SUPPOSED to be there and when it can't unlock it, its no good. guy@socal is the guy a locked ecm needs to go to so it can be flashed. Iv sent several there he replaces something internally and ships them back pretty quick. Hope this helps!

I had also heard the same thing from Quinton here on DD. Just can't be without my truck during the downtime is the only problem. Wish someone had an affordable used stock ECM for sale ha

the logical thing here is to just order a pre tuned ecm from tony, kory, rob, nick etc and send yours as the core!

Best thing to do is call and see who you like best. Iv used tony and kory. Power levels were the same, korys customer service wasn't quite as good as tonys but i know tony on personal level and just shot him a text when i needed something. Tonys tunes got a lot better fuel mileage also

if you had your own v2 could you find the stock os and try a full flash? I have the same problem with mine.

What made them think it was 'locked out'? The edge doesn't do anything with the ecm other than fool it. Before assuming its locked, you might want to see if there's anyone nearby that can try to read it. If they can, it's not locked.

With an 01, I would avoid GM. The 01 is semi unique in how it flashes with the TECH2, and they can brick them easily. Many have had completely stock trucks never touched by any tuner get teh ECM bricked by GM having a flash done.

What he said. Teh EDGE juice with attitude is nothing more than a pressure box basically. it plugs inline with the rail pressure sensor and a few other plugs. It doesn't do anythign to the ECM tuning, and there is no reason why installing one would have involved flashing the ECM. Stick with EFILIVE for an 01 ECM. Personally I would reccomend calling Tony at RIDGERUNNER. I've yet to hear any complaints about his tuning that he didn't resolve in short order, and his customer service is top notch. he doesn't always answer the phone, but he always calls back and gives you sound advice.
