lmm stock brake controller when in reverse

I have a question that maybe someone can help me out with.
I have a stock 2008 duramax ext cab short box with stock brake controller.
I am in the process of rebuilding a dual axle trialer to use for elk hunting.
I just received the electric brake/ backing plates and the drum are getting turned as i write this at a local shop.

My question is this, does the brake controller signal energize the brakes when in reverse ?

I ASSUME that the trailer brakes work in reverse, but now that you ask, I really haven't tested them to know for sure. You have the ITBC or aftermarket controller?
