I Just installed EFI Live, 4" straight Pipe, and a DSP5 with tunes around 1000 miles ago. I was planning on installing a blocker plate and PCV re-route, but I wasn't sure when. Well, today I was looking at my engine and I have a very small amount of soot/oil on the outside of the boost tube by the turbo. Stuff like this makes me nervous, So I want to get things straight.

1) If I do a PCV re-route & EGR blocker plate, Is there anything bad that can happen because of these mods?

2) Once I get these done, is there anything more I can do to make my LMM engine stay healthy and last a long time?

#2 is the million $ question and the answers always start with you should leave it stock, boost tubes can be sealed better and with #1 mods will stop introducing oil to the intake system! As for #1 no bad should happen.... just might set some codes. #3 time to save up for a trans upgrade, thats where you should worry if you have some good tunes built. .02

Robert is right on... if you don't want to risk your engine i'd run no more than a 90hp tow tune.... ever

i have been running my first tune for 50,000 mi now and i just got my DSP 5 switch, i have not installed it yet and i also have my egr blocker plate that i have not had time to installe. I have have been driving the wheels off of mine since i got the tune, but it is not a heavy race tune, i can still pull, but i rin up to 1425 EGT's now and am going to go to a twin turbo setup to drop the egt's , well that is my plan but like you say i am starting to get to the point where i will be kinda nervouse since it is my daily driver. and it is hard to stay off it :D

My tunes are built well. I'm not worried about them. The tranny is all about my foot control. I'm talking as far as the engine goes.

Is the soot normal for not having a EGR and PCV? Cdbright, Do you have soot by your boost tube?

Can the Soot be from the air filter plugged? It's only been on for less 3000 miles.

Is your EGR blocked?

I just talked to Gillete Diesel and they said there is no need for it If my tunes shut if off.

EGR plate is more for keeping the boost pressure where its supposed to be, cleaning up the intake tract is a pleasant side effect.:D If your truck is your daily driver and you like to push it.... Keep or start a "oh shit I broke ....." fund handy!

Always have kept a "oh shit" fund... I'm just trying to stay out of that fund as much as possible. I don't push my truck, so I think we will be ok.
