LMM Issues

Guys,

Just tuned a 2010 LMM for my dentist yesterday (cool dentist :thumb:). Helped him remove DPF and put full 4" MBRP. Basically looking for better mileage and driveability. Installed a DSP2 with about a 50 hp fun tune and the DSP side completely stock. Everything went well until later in the day he was getting some black smoke on startup and rough idle. I'm assuming it is the EGR. Do you guys normally leave it enabled when no blocker plate is installed? Do you disable completely or leave it enabled and set the parameters so it never operates?

Or is a blocker plate a must?

And just to clarify, he is not a "customer". Just trying to help a guy out and this is a good example of why I don't like to tune and monkey with these trucks as often as I used to.

Thanks,
Ed

EGR tune

Ed I would put a blocker plate. I have seen when logging that the boost will blow open the egr anyway. Log the egr and watch if it opens under boost any. Low boost it might not but I would check. Jeff

I understand that Jeff. I guess I'm just perplexed since the tune is basically stock with the DPF turned off and now he is seeing this issue on startup. Tony's truck ran the big tune from Dmaxtuner with no plate and we never ran into this.

I know the answer is to eventually put a blocker plate on, I just want the nasty smoke on start up to go away until we have 3 hours to do it.

Can you explain to me how to log this?

Egr

RKT is correct but if you have a known value when you start and under boost it changes you are blowing it open. I wouldn't think stock would but when the vanes move it might be doing something. Jeff

Disabled the EGR last night and it lost all power. Decided to put it back to a stock single tune less DPF. Running fine but threw a code on his way home. Gonna kill the code tonight and wait until a blocker plate is put in to retune.

I hate LMMs.

I've disabled mine, and havent installed my blocker plate yet no EGR issues. I dont have any issues with mine. I did have some slighty surging issues in cruise control, but I have since tried a different tune from another member on here and those problems are all but gone now.

Defintely leave EGR on until there is a blocker plate is installed. That caused a lack of power and "cough" under load when I had EGR off. I ran same tune EGR on and it worked fine.
