Heh. Wouldn't you like to know
Been working and planning this for a while, just thought I'd get some second opinions and/or more insight if possible.

Decided since I built the entire motor myself, that screw it, I'll give the trans a shot too.

So got ahold of GPZ C1-C4s and Raybestos Stage-1 C5s.

Getting ready to order a billet stator converter from Gorend with the PTO covers.

But where I need just a tad bit of help is hydraulic mods. I decided to compile my own kit as I was able to get the clutches for a steal.

As of right now all I have is the Full Transgo kit and 2 of mikes Trim springs. And just wondering what else I need as I know there is slightly more involved. Read through almost every post on DD, DF, and DP. It's hard to decipher what's good and old methods or tech.

I found this kit...

http://dirtyhookerdiesel.com/i-14902447-dhd-rt-a01-pr-allison-transmission-line-pressure-upgrade-spring.html

Was wondering if its what I need also?

I also think Mike makes a line pressure spring?

This is about the only part of the build where the confusion started to set in.

Any help would be awesome.

Are the c3 and c4 pistons a 'better safe than sorry, might as well replace while you're there' part?

I was under the impression they were a 'replace as necessary' part.

:roflmao: Wait till I finishing machining the parts for the Dual Fueler kit.

I got a few wrenches over here with your name on them for when this goes down. :beer

Oh you machined me wrenches?! I knew you were a good friend :D

Another question. With the C1s, I have the thicker 5 speed backing plate and thinner 6 speed plate. But with the 5speed plate instructions say to leave out 2 clutches. I read 16 everywhere i look. So do I run the 14 with the thicker plate or 16 with the thicker plate and make room for the full 16 elsewhere? Or use the 6speed plate and run 16?

You need to run 16 C1 clutches if you are putting out any horse power. My PR spring helps as C1-C2 run directly off of full mainline pressure. Remember that in the 5 speed trans; the C1/C2 apply pistons do not contact the clutches in the center. This causes the clutches to contact only 50% and lose holding power.
My suggestion is a SC G-Max kit. Trying to source your own parts may hurt you if you choose wrong.
I've spent years testing and researching the best parts combinations till I found what works best. I use a custom G-max kit with hand picked parts.

Why wasn't I notified of these custom wrenches?! Josh, you better add padding on the handles of those wrenches for james to use, he's got those old dainty hands ya know! ;)

Mike, at power level would you recommend the 16 vs. 14? I know power levels for transmissions are mythical at best.... just curious, I'm trying to remember how many mine had and suncoasts website isn't working atm to look at the instructions to jog my memory. what are the two thicknesses of plates suncoast provides?

I haven't seen SC use 14 C1 plates in their kits in many years. I haven't used 14 C1 in many years as well. With proper mods in the rotating assembly and much higher pressure they can work, but not as well.
