this is my first post and my first diesel. i have an 06 lly. vin confirms this with a 2 and 6 all in the right places lol. so my question has been asked before but in every thread it keeps getting over looked. IF I TUNE MY 06 LLY WITH A TUNER WILL IT HAVE THE SAME HP AND TORQUE NUMBERS AS IF IT WAS AN LBZ? it is my understanding that they have the same OS same ECM same ENGINE just a lighter tune. so all of the tuners say gain 40hp on setting one.....well is it going to be 40hp from my starting point of 310 or will it be 40hp from the starting point of 360??? and part two of the question is if it is just a generic tune that only adds 40hp to what you currently have then how can i put the stock normal LBZ tune in it and then add the programmer so that position one gives me the 40hp and 400hp total....i hope this makes since and thanks in advance!!!

I will most likely go with efi with a monitor, if you look at bullydog, edge, Diablo etc....they say adds "X" amount of hp and so forth but wasn't sure if it is on the lly tune or it goes ahead and bumps it up to the lbz tune with the added hp.....
2006 lly plus 40hp=350hp
2006 lbz plus 40hp=400hp

The hardware between the two are the same, only the tuning is different.
So it stands to reason that an 06 LBZ tune will up the hp of an 06 LLY to the same level as the LBZ. The initial HP ratings are irrelevant.

With canned tuners, they read out your stock tune, and apply the changes to it, and then load it back in. I know on a bullydog and predator, they add the stated amount of HP to what the truck had stock. So if you had an 06 lly with the 310hp or whatever it is, and add a 50hp tune, it should in theory bring you up to 360 or what a stock lbz is. With efilive, they can start with an lbz tune, and build from there, so you see even bigger increases. All the 06 lly trucks I've tuned, the owners have all commented on the big power increase because I start with an lbz tune and go from there, so they get 50HP more over what an LBZ owner would see if I put the same tune in for them.

I cant speak to all boxxed/canned tuners, but these 2 I can because I've read out 5he altered tunes and looked at them to see it. Hope this answered your question.

Are you close to anybody? If not any of our vendors are great. Call them and see who you like.

Be sure and install an EGT probe/gauge as it is a bare minimum requirement, most of the tuners if you read the fine print suggest this. I've been running a 90hp EFI tune which is the suggested maximum for a stock transmission and even then if I'm not careful I can do some damage to the transmission if I have not already done so.

The guy who tuned my truck when I asked for more HP he replied in an email, for the stock Allison to live a long life (crossing my fingers) 90hp is plenty.....

Also, at some point along the way, GM merged the calibrations for the 'LLY' and LBZ. For example, the LBZ ecm in my truck has a 'system' part number of 12632677. A few revisions back, at part number 12604106, the description is "New calibration combines LBZ and LLY usages." If you go to tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web you can enter you VIN and see the available calibrations, and if you can get a read of your ecm, you can see where you're starting from.

The operating systems are the same, but the calibrations are different. Read an 06 lly not to long ago with a fresh flash from GM(less than 2 years ago), and it was still derated from an actual LBZ on comparison. It's a quick segment swap, and an 06 lly goes from 310 to 360.

I went to the local gm dealer here and he said there are 4 updates that are do to my ecm but was going to charge $90 to flash it with the latest. He said since I plan on getting a tuner not to mess with it cause the tuner would fix anything that is missing now....hope that is correct or do I need to go and have them flash it?
