I just replaced the thermostats in my LLY, but my ECT numbers are still sitting between 149f and 163f. I understand that operating temperature is around 180f - 185f. I test drive the truck and let it idle for a good 20. Any suggestions?

Is your reading taken from the dash gauge or being read by an EDGE or similar device from the OBD port? The dash gauges on these trucks are notoriously inaccurate.

Just some 36 dollar aftermarkets from orileys. Yes the one with the bleeder holes is facing toward the back of the engine.

Only run ac delco, oem, or mishimotos. Get a infared gun and check the actual temp. Could be a bad coolant temp sensor, or just corrosion in the plug. Again, if you need parts, don't cheap out. Only buy good ones, or your problems WILL continue.

I've sold lots of the murrarys from Orilley with no isse what so ever..

As asked earlier what's ambient temp? (Outside air temp)

Is your heat working well? If it's decently warm outside and you have good heat Id do as fern mentioned and look at the coolant temp sensor.

Following this. Mine rarely gets above 170 in the winter. (Air temp 30-50F)

Really? Around town (55-60 mph) the temp stays around 165 on my edge cts with the air temp outside being around 40~45F. I thought it was supposed to stay higher like around 180.

In my opinion these trucks have huge cooling capacities to handle workloads.. Empty trucks in cold temps aren't going to fully warm up.. They dissipate heat to well.. Put a winter front on it and see how much bigger difference there is.

I would have to disagree that these trucks have huge cooling systems, anemic at best where I live even the LBZ, (GM crammed 10lbs. of engine in a 5lbs. doghouse) the LMM got a reprieve with the design of how much surface area the newer body allows air through the stack, the LML is a whole different animal..

I modified the opening behind the grill on mine and lowered my overall coolant temperatures 10-20 degrees in August during in town stop and go traffic with OAT of 115 degrees and the AC works a 100 times better........

If only they followed suit with oil cooling

I will be installing a Webasto Hydronic heater this winter. I use a ton of fuel to warm my truck up in the mornings and never have the temp gauge even move.

I went out tonight and drove maybe 10-15 miles. The truck never got above 160F and it was 47F outside. I believe I'll be putting two new thermostats in this weekend. Is there any benefit from running the mishimoto "racing" tstats? They are 186 and 191 I think instead of the 180 and 185.
