LLY replaced #2, now #8 is going bad and #2 high?

My #2 injector has shown marginal balance rates for over a year, all others were well within spec so I decided to replace #2, had it done by a local quality shop and now #8 is reading -3.8--4.2 and #2 (new reman) is reading + 3.5-+3.8. The reman comes from a known good injector shop. If I replace #8 is another injector on that bank going to start going bad?

What are you reading balance rates with? EFI LLY scan tool doesn't work right. Make sure you use a tech2 for your readings.

How do you figure???

Works fine on my v2. Half the time even for my normal work, i don't use the scanner I just grab my v2 and log trucks or check balance rates because its a lot quicker. Iv never had an issue.

My vote would be get up with Brent@Lincoln and get some new sticks!

Not on the LLY the cylinder numbering is wrong trust me I have changed the wrong injector before. Do some reading on it.

My insight and v2 read the same rates on each injector, no difference, or are they both wrong? Balance rates don't tell you everything. The ecm just pulls/adds as it see fit to smooth the engine out. Just because the balance rate is bad doesn't always mean the injector is bad. I switched out two injectors in my truck and one still shows bad, but its brand new. Just so happens to be the one showing bad is good and first in the firing order but the one that knocks and shows a good balance rate is last in the firing order. Take into account firing order as well but I could be completely wrong though.

IIRC, the original software used the conventional gas motor cylinder numbering but it has supposedly been changed in the latest rev for the Duramax. Anyway, shop used a Tech II and I checked it with IOS OBD Fusion and it correlates.

Is there a reason you changed the injector other than the balance rate being out of spec? I read somewhere that the balance rates don't show the full story, and not to put too much stock into it unless the truck is smoking.

Return rates are also important in determining bad injectors. Smoke can be visual indicator...

Yes, I know there are other factors, but it was intermittently noisy and getting worse. I would check it periodically and sometimes balance rates would be marginally in spec and sometimes they would be out so I don't think it's a compression issue. The thing I'm trying to figure out is why did #8 start going out of spec when #2 was replaced but it was always well within spec before that...

Just bad luck I would say but I have saw trucks with the ficm do funny things in regards to injectors.

I dont ever recommend replacing one at a time on these trucks. They're way too pissy and complicated to do that. It's unfortunate that a new set costs and arm and a leg :spit:
