LLY Quesitons

Dad wants to go look an an LLY.

2005 w/ 245k Reg Cab Chassis Flat Bed

If he gets it the plan is to turn it into a service truck. Probably always loaded to somewhere around 14-15k.

Question is:

Can it be reliable?
What do we need to do to make it reliable if not?
I've heard about overheating issues and head gaskets.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

210k on my lly. bought it with 88k, been running a max effort tune since 90k. stock head gaskets and never over heated. i don't typically haul alot and i am located at sea level(northeast). but the truck does plow and has had plenty of spirited driving and hooked to the sled many times. only engine related problems have been ice pick fix to connectors, after 190k radiator (surge tank) cap, and water pump. at 183k i did build the trans after numerous (more than i can count) limps to the converter.
