Yes it's the horn or elbow if you will that the 6.6 box sits on. some lly people swap if out for the LB7 one and it does change the sound of the truck. Also while I'm on the subject its reported by doing the LB7 mouth piece swap that it will prevent head gasket failure and over heating. IDK for sure but I do know it will make for faster turbo spool up and flow more air. Hope this helps you. I agree what your hearing is the turbo unless you have boost leak but then you wouldn't be making any power and it would be smoking harder than a cumm-bubble on roids. :roflmao:

Not trying to sound like a smart*ss but I believe Frankinmax ment to say LBZ mouth piece because a LB7 intake horn wouldn't work on a VVT, it bolts on with three bolts and a VVT uses a v band clamp.

may just be youre not used to the different sound? the lb7 is a waste-gated turbo. the lly started with the vvt and is similar to what is still used to date. since its still stock, run it by a dealer/diesel shop and just get them to hook it up to a diagnostic machine to get it checked out for peace of mind. if you still have power then you still have boost. its probably fine.

My brother is a ASE master mechanic(i know tons of ppl say that, but he really just got the master badge and passed all the tests.), and at his shop the also deal with a lot of diesels and heavy duty trucks, and said it sounds ok, but will ask the main heavy duty mechanic what he thinks, and will bring his scan tool home. thanks man

I know when the allison is cold at low speeds it has a whine. But if your truck is warmed up it's probably just the turbo.
