I'm getting ready to replace the injectors on my LLY. The stock injectors made it over 10 years and 243,000 miles. How long does it take typically? I figure I'll take your number and multiply it by 2 or 3 since I've never done them before. I'm probably going to buy an injector removal tool from Merchant. Any tips or tricks you folks want to share? Thanks.

If they come out easy which mine did a couple hours but sometimes with higher miles they get really stuck and I mean really stuck lol

4-6 hrs is better than I thought. I'll keep my fingers crossed they come out easy. I'll get some carb cleaner and make more of my favorite acetone and ATF penetrating oil too.

Anything helps, I try to do them when the truck is warm so the return lines come out and makes pry out easier. I recommend buying new OEM leak back lines (return lines) from DHD for cheap assurance.Be careful pulling these out of the factory injectors as well, they tend to get brittle and will break off in the top of the injector if you aren't careful. I did all 8 of mine in 3-4 hours with a lunch break.

Good luck!

X2 lol I think rule of thumb is 4-6hrs
What he said, not much quicker than doing LB7's as I used to be able to do them in 6.5 hours, the LLY I did took me right around 5.5 hours. CLEAN the top of the engine BEFORE start pulling stuff off. Dirt and crap settle down around the injectors, and when you pull them out it all drops right down into the hole and then you have to get a vacuum to get it all out(lesson learned the hard way. After you clean it all off good, spray some blaster or something down around the injectors to lubricate the o-rings to help em break loose easier. And watch the injector hold down bolts, they can be pretty crusty where they go down into the head.

In all honesty I prefer doing LB7's. Yes it's a little more work, but your not dealing with all that drap dropping down around the injectors, and hoping the hold down bolts aren't seized in.

Biggest thing I would say is the return line fittings. Just pulled my injectors and had 5 of the plastic Ts break off. If you can hit them with penetrating lube a couple days beforehand.

Good time to adjust the valves...
I just finished injector replacement and valve lash adjustment. A few of the valves were a couple thousands loose but overall pretty close. Valve adjustment added several hours to the process. Excess return leakage was causing rail pressure loss when towing in hot weather. other than that it ran great. Did the test tube test and found 3 on the right side out of spec. No expectations of finding any joy on the other side so a complete change was in order.
Around a full day and a half. A lot of work, but it's back together runs good and is a little more quiet. It is imperative to keep clean lines when you go back together. My injectors came out easily. Because of your location use caution as the Fermanator mentioned about the trash. Use lots of penetrating WD40 and air to get the junk from around the injectors and lube the hold down bolts. You can't get it all so be carefull about what falls into the hole.
FYI, this was the first and last I hope, I'm getting too old for this. Injectors purchased from Lincoln Diesel. Very helpful if you need help.
Good luck

I had 8hrs in mine, but I also had two hold down bolts break off right at the top of the rocker housing. It actually seemed like there was more stuff bolted to the rocker housing when removing than an lb7. Drivers side only took 3 of those 8hrs lol. I bought new return lines and just didn't worry whether the old ones broke or not. Only $15 a side anyway.

But the injectors pulled out easier than any lb7 I've done, and the bores were very clean. I just use the straight end of a heel bar under the hold down and pull.

I had every intention of buying from you but I ended up buying some slightly used Exergy 60% overs from Catman3126.
