Hey guys I got a 05 lly with about 170,000 on it now. It runs great but I think its dumping a lot of fuel in the crankcase. It was way too full before so I changed the oil and made sure I put in the exact amount. Now a couple weeks later I checked it again it is way to full and smells like diesel. When I first start it up cold it will have a little bit of blue smoke till it warms up and it surges sometimes. It runs the best when it is hot. I have noticed it is also more loud and clattery than my other duramax's. I checked the balance rates and they all very close. Is it the CP3 or could it be the FPR?

fpr has nothing to do with it, Id pull the pump and hope you find it leaking at the shaft on the front.

When you say check the balance rates and they are all very close, what were the readings?

The readings were all ranging from. 5.7 to 4.5 at idle. Should I bring it to the dealer and have them put their tech 2 on it?

The truck is not even tuned is the motor is very clattery for a duramax I think. It just doesn't sound right to me. They were all positive also.

If they're all positive then they're bleeding off fuel somewhere, I'd assume under the valve cover, which is why your crankcase is over full. Sounds like you need to get your self a set if injectors.

Am I the only one that noticed this was an lly? Nowhere for fuel to leak from the injector body into the crank case. And if the injectors were leaking at the nozzle bad enough to fill the crank case "way to full" and "smell like diesel" the truck would almost have to be fuel knocking, smoke like a mosquito fogger and or hydrolock when sitting. If it is indeed getting fuel into the oil and does not smoke tremendously or hydrolock I'd be suspecting the cp3 seal. Uncommon as it is. Not saying it can't be injectors but I'd be shocked if it is the source of your dilution.

Ya I would say you are right. Like I said though. It almost does sound like it is fuel knocking, but it might just be the pilot injection, idk. It surges more and more often now at stops like it has a cam in it and I have to hold my foot harder on the brake.
