I have an 02 lb7. Truck has 146xxx miles. Cold air intake 4" exhaust 20% injectors air dog 150 an efi live with about 100 hp tune on it.. Most of the time the truck stays in the garage an I drive my beater with a heater to work. Just recently the tranny started acting funny. After the truck has sat in the garage for a day or more when u start the truck an go to pull out it won't move. U put it in gear an give it a little fuel it does nothing like it's in neutral.. After about 10 seconds it starts to slowly move again with giving it fuel. After driving it it doesn't do it anymore. U can park it for awhile then get back in an go an it doesn't do it.. But if it sits for a day or more it'll do it.. Yesterday I went to drive it an it did it again so I sat an waited for it to start to roll but instead it all of a sudden slammed in gear throwing it into limp. Once I cycled the ignition to take it out of limp mode it was fine.. I checked the fluid level an it is up within spec. Every other oil change I change the spin on filter. Anyone have any ideas?

What can I do to fix that or find out if that's what it is? I think the truck used to be a pulling truck be the ladder bars tires an lift that was on it. An the ecm is locked from a cheap tuner so I can't use a dsp5 switch. It's not throwing any codes either.

Drop the pan and peel the sump filter apart and see if there is anything in it. Have a new filter handy.

Ok I'll try that this weekend an see what I find. I was told by a guy in town to check the spin on filter for lots of shavings to see if the converter might be goin out.

Try my way first. Your pump is losing prime and that can be caused by converter drain back or a restricted sump filter. Spin on filters are low pressure filters and are there to filter valve body and solenoids. They will not cause your problem.

Ok I drained the fluid and put two new filters on with new fluid. Internal and spin on. There were a few shavings nothing crazy. Both magnets had some sludgey material on them like graphite looking I'm assuming would probably be burnt off clutch material. The fluid looked pretty good nice an red. It seems to shift an drive a little better but here an there it will still hang in one gear. But not as bad as b4. Does that info help any?

What did you find in the sump filter?

Is it hanging gears under heavy acceleration or just normal driving? Sounds dumb but a plugged fuel filter will make your trans hang shifts under heavier throttle situations.

Just normal driving.. It's got an air dog ont eh truck too.. Those filters will be changed this week. It seems to be doing a lot better after the filter change with fluid but I'm stumped because I didn't find much that I could see causing a problem in the internal filter
