I'm pretty new when it comes to the Duramax but I'm definitely not new to diesels.
I need some insight here.

I've been haunting around and haven't found much that helps me diagnose whats going on. I'm hoping someone has come across this string of codes before and can point me in the right direction....

So here's what I have going on. Everything started after I installed the EGR block-off plate (had a P0403 code so I cleaned the EGR and intake before installing it).
I also run a Bullydog Tripple Dog (tow/econ setting most of the time) but that's it for mods. As of right now anyways :D

So I'm getting:

P0401 - Insufficient EGR flow - Knew that one and no big deal - need to fingerstick it
P003a x2 - Turbocharger Boost Control Position Not Learned (just learned what that code was a few hours ago)
P0108 - Manifold Pressure Circuit High Imput
P0700 - Transmission control system (MIL request)
P0234 - Turbocharger Overboost (not suprized as I do play in extreme on occasion)

I've noticed is that from a stop the truck is throwing quite abit of smoke and sometimes won't shift. It hits about 2800 rpm and just seems hang there. Like its running out of boost.
Also I've noticed a new noise out of the turbo. Kinda like something flapping when you let off the skinny pedal from WOT....... Goes whoop, whoop, whoop. If you know that sound  LOL

I've already checked the boots on the boost tube and other than being soft all appears well....

Any ideas??

you need to adjust your over boost parmeters

the whoop whoop is turbo bark, its not good but happens lots

Do you have EFI? And is this a LLY or lbz?

Code:
couple options have someone with EFI tune the codes out or get a FS
Or get EFI yourself

Will a Fingerstick fix all this?? From my understanding all that did was block the 401 and 402 codes....... is it possible the 401 code is setting all the other codes then?

I'm starting to wish I had bought EFI right off the bat.....

Code:
Did you unplug the EGR motor also?

No I did not. Just blocked it and left everything plugged in.

Code:
Did it run ok before the EGR blocker???

No codes? No smoke?

No codes other than a 403 code which sparked an intake cleaning and the EGR Block. That's when all these codes started popping up.........

There is always some black smoke coming out the tailpipe since I tow a 10k-11k trailer constantly. :cool2: But not like this. I'm now getting smoke constantly unloaded in tow/econ.... That's never happened before! And the acting like its running out of boost @ 2800rpm with a big black cloud like its in extreme is a new one.....????

Update:

So I pulled the EGR block off out and most of the codes cleared other than the P003a and it started popping a P0402......

Took it in and it's the Variable vane cervo ........ Yippee

And they are going to do a chemical flush on the EGR. Didn't know they did it that way now.

Looks like I'll find out when I get the truck back. LOL Never fails that these things happen just after doing a 4hr wash and detail job.

Thanx for the help!

Here's a question, if you completely remove the egr setup on a LBZ and do NOT tune the codes out(as in run a stock tune) will that affect performance(fuel mileage/power)? The egr motor is gone and the up-pipe is welded shut.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. You'll probably just have a light on.
