I'm typing from a clone computer I built with Ubuntu Linux in a server configuration.

I am looking at another Linux computer at work that is our work server. I can move files to work from home just like a normal LAN network. No VPN, no fixed IP. You'd think the work computer was right here.

Yesterday, Robert Miller and I finished sticking a 10" wireless transmitter on my roof and aimed it at work, 2.65 miles away, which has an identical dish on it's roof. By hooking it up as a WDS Bridge, nobody can "see" it but us, and the speed is amazing. 28.8 mbps this morning downloading.

So far so good, everyone seems to be pleased with the faster speeds both on LAN and Internet at work.

Yeah, not truck stuff, at least not yet. It would be interesting to try and develop a datalogger or engine control using Linux.

It's amazing how fast the newer internet technology is. 28.8 mbps is slow compared to some. Rob has internet that is so fast that the pages appear before you turn on your computer.

But our work was stuck with 1.5 mpbs when it worked right, and usually it didn't. A normal day saw about 300 kbps download speed with a lot of time-outs. It would take several efforts to retrieve the email or to send one. It has been a problem for 10 years, and now I found a "work-around" that's better than any available options.

Just finished a practical test. I moved a 699 MB file from home to work in 1 min 50 secs.

That would be pretty sweet to have a little stand alone logger in a truck and control it from the pits and view it also:cool2:

so your work connection is transmitted from your house?

I like it. was the transmitter home built or did you buy it? There are some vids/sites explaining how to build one.

Does it tx and rx?
