Lift pump thoughts...

Hey guys, I'm looking to add a lift pump to my truck. I have searched endless threads on here about them. One thing I can't seem to find or figure out is why the centrifugal pumps don't seem to work as well as the positive displacement pumps. I have been looking at the KD and TSS pumps because they are centrifigal mag drive pumps. These seem better because with the positive displament pumps, when the fuel is not needed by the inj pump, it has to go over a relief valve and back to tank which adds air and heat. The centrifugal drive will add some heat and air, but seems like it would be less. The numbers keep showing that the positive displacement (Edelbrock, Airdog, Holley..) provide more power. Anyone figured out why that is? Why does the extra pressure at the injector pump help so much? I was looking at ordering a ITT/Jabsco pump or a KD to try, but don't want to if they don't work. Here is the Jabsco pump Here and Here

I've read a few posts that say the raptor is the air dog without the filters. Anyone know if that's true?

Beach: You got that truck ready for the start of the pulling season...;) Middle of May is the first Test-n-Tune at Cambridge

Does anyone know how the Airdog removes the air? Does it really affect mileage that much vs just a regular lift pump? I'm trying to figure out if the 2 extra filters to replace is worth the $200 extra in inital cost.

I'm surprised the Airdog dumps the return fuel in above the tank. Most OEM engine installations require the return fuel to returned below tank level. This keeps aeration to a minimum. Then we have to keep them seperated to help increase the dwell time for heat and aeration.

aeration is not a problem with the airdogg. thats the reason for the air seperator on the pump. if i am not mistaken the filters are 1 micron so it should keep you from having to change factory filter as often or you could just get rid of it all together. the airdogg flows alot of fuel. probably one of the best improvements i made to my truck

The raptor is made by PureFlow (like the AirDog) and is basically an air dog without the filter, water seperator, or air seperation. As beach said the filters are the AirDog are better than the factory filter and I am getting rid of the factory filter all together.

Only issue with this is that in an emergency you can go to a parts store and get a stock filter. Not sure you can do the same with the Air Dog filters.

How often are the filters on the Air Dog needing to be changed?

I got the Air Dogg installed on my truck and I would recommend it to you. Awesome product and very quiet too. I posted a write up on here too.

These are all of the Fleet Gaurd part numbers for the available filters and water seperators for the AirDog:

FUEL FILTER
FF 5617 10 MICRON
FF 5587 5-7 MICRON
FF 5613 2 MICRON

WATER SEPERATOR FS19768

Thanks man. I appreciate it.
